Breaking News – The submission deadline for FDUK 2022 has been extended! The new submission deadline is now July 1st 2022. So you now have an extra three weeks to submit your fulldome film. But please note, you must have completed the submission form and uploaded a preview version of your film by this date.

The new July 1st deadline is for the submission of linear fulldome films, which are split into the following two categories:

• Feature Films (any duration)
• Short Films (maximum 10 minutes duration)

In addition to fulldome films, we are still accepting submissions for Live Performances (real-time or interactive fulldome works) and Presentations (talks, demos or workshops). If you would like to propose any of the above for FDUK 2022, then please get in touch with us directly, rather than using the film submission form.

#BestOfEarth will return in 2023!

#BestOfEarth is a global fulldome awards ceremony, created in 2021 by four founding international fulldome festivals:

Fulldome UK, Fulldome Festival Jena, Dome Fest West and Dome Under Festival.

The first #BestOfEarth awards ceremony and screening programme took place simultaneously at the venues of the four founding festivals. The award ceremony and announcements were streamed live from the Zeiss-Grossplanetarium Berlin on October 9th, 2021, and viewed all around the world.

In 2023, #BestOfEarth will evolve to become a stand-alone awards ceremony and the date has been set:

March 25th 2023.

In order for a film to qualify for nomination to the #BestOfEarth awards jury, the film must have previously been screened at one of the four founding festivals during 2022. Those four festivals, and their dates, are below:

October 6-9, 2022

Fulldome UK
 Plymouth, United Kingdon
November 4-13, 2022

Dome Under Festival
 Melbourne, Australia

So don’t forget to submit your film to all of the above festivals, even if you have already submitted to one of them already. The more often you submit, the greater the chance your film will be screened at one of these festivals, and therefore qualify for nomination to #BestOfEarth 2023.

4th-12th November 2022 – Save the Date!

The UK’s premiere celebration of all things fulldome will take place once more at the Market Hall Dome in Plymouth, during November 2022. The call for submissions is now open and we are looking for short films, feature films, interactive artworks, live performances, workshops & presentations to present at the festival. If you are a fulldome practitioner of any kind and would like to be part of FDUK 2022, we would love to hear from you.

FULLDOME UK 2012 is a celebration of the Fulldome experience. The event will focus on the use of Fulldome as an artistic medium and will look to highlight the more creative and experimental applications of Fulldome immersive environments, beyond the realm of astronomy education most commonly associated with digital planetariums today. In addition to a programme of talks, presentations and screenings, a highlight of this year’s event will be a focus on realtime and audiovisual perfomances on the Saturday night. Its time to rock the dome people! FULLDOME UK 2012 is becoming the recognised hub and playground for the experimental fulldome arts scene in the UK and internationally. The event mobilises a national and international network of artists and creatives.

This year, FULLDOME UK 2012 has teamed up with the amazing NSC Creative and its coming to The National Space Centre! With Fulldome Live VJ sets, talks with Fulldome industry insiders and a plethora of artistic Fulldome shorts, the festival will be a veritable dome-tastic extravaganza! The event, which is being held on the 16th and 17th November will be the biggest Fulldome festival the UK has ever seen; not only due to the physical size and number of seats in the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium but also due to the exceptionally talented array of contributors. The FULLDOME UK 2012 programme will consist of a range of performances, shorts, features and talks by leading fulldome artists and technologists. 2012 is headlined by DJ Food from Ninja Tune and real time Visual Artists / VJs: La Société des arts technologiques [SAT] (Canada), United VJs (Brazil/EU), Immersive (UK) and RFID (UK). For a full schedule please go here. We received more than eighty submissions for our short film competition from all over the world and will be awarding a first prize for “Best in Show” of £500.00. On Saturday night, a well renowned jury of experts will pick the winner!

Running over two days to audiences of several hundred people (including both the Fulldome attendees and members of the general public each afternoon), the festival showcased a range of works from the scientific and astronomical documentaries that are the mainstay of dome film-making, to highly experimental artworks.
